Kate Pankhurst’s school visits

Mariella-Mystery-199x300Kate offers a range of workshops  for Foundation Stage, KS1 and KS2 pupils and would be happy to work with you to meet the needs of your school. Kate’s Mariella Mystery events are aimed at KS2 children but can be adapted to suit Year Two pupils. Kate is also happy to run monster themed sessions with KS1 and Foundation Stage children.

As a guide, we would suggest holding an assembly, followed by up to three workshops during a full-day visit. Kate is also available for half-day visits closer to her Leeds base.

Assembly: To start her visit, Kate would suggest a Meet Mariella Mystery fun school assembly style session with a twist. Children are introduced to Kate’s work and get top tips for creating their own characters and stories. Expect audience participation, funny props and live drawing from Kate.

KS2 workshop: Kate’s KS2 workshops include Mystery Story Starters, which are adaptable sessions full of inspiring writing and drawing activities to spark ideas for stories. Outcomes can include detective character designs, illustrated book jackets or mystery case files.

Foundation Stage/KS1 workshop: For children in Foundation Stage and KS1,  Kate offers a Monster Madness workshop. Join Kate to illustrate marvellous monsters and create a crazy world for them to live in. Outcomes can include character designs, class books and bookmarks.

We would recommend that workshops last a minimum of an hour and could accommodate a class of children. Kate is able to work with two classes at once if larger spaces are available. Kate would be happy to sign copies of her books which have been bought by the children at the end of the day.
